Adam's Decipher Page
This page contains links to all my major articles and tournament reports from my time with Decipher. It's provided for historical purposes, but you might see a pattern of change in how I write as time goes on. During my foray into the world of collectible cards and card stores, the CCG industry, I seriously played two games: Lord of the Rings and .hack//ENEMY, both by Decipher I also casually played several other games. If I ever get time, there's an excellent article chronicling what I learned as player, organizer, and judge. Maybe someday.
Lord of the Rings Articles
-
The Economics of the Dollar, a well-recieved but controversial article arguing for change in the economics of the industry. There's been some progress towards professionalization, but it's still a tough road. The CCG industry has never been well run.
-
The Long Twilight Struggle, an article describing how to build a deck. It won me a prize, at least partially because of the cool section titles.
- World Championships 2005, where tiebreakers fail me.
- Wisconsin TOC 2005, and the toughest tiebreaker ever.
- Wisconsin TOC 2004, a tournament report of victory.
-
Wisconsin TOC 2003, not a victory, but anything that notes June Carter Cash is good, right?
-
Madison PSQ Jan 2003, a story of honor.
-
Michigan TOC 2002, a report of problems and pain. The pain's gone away, though, because I realized I can play quirky. It's become my style, and allows me to get around the pressure.
-
Mount Prospect, Feb 2002, one of four reports from the first three months of the game. When things were new, every event, even local tournaments, earned a report. The next three listings are also early reports.
- Niles, Jan 2002
- Mount Prospect, Jan 2002
-
My first report, from December 2001.
.hack Articles
- Play by play of the 2005 World Championship Final, sadly not including me.
- World Championships 2005.
- The link to Comiccon 2005, mostly .hack.
-
.hack World Championships 2004, 3500 words, four days, one championship.
- World Championships, and my deck with a brilliant decktitle, Janelle on the River of the Water of Life. Describing the deck, supporting a friend, and quoting Revelation - who could ask for more?
-
.hack Madison March 2004, and Mimiru still matters.
- November 2004 RotM. Rule of the Month were short articles written for Decipher about the special rule of each .hack month. I never got paid for these, actually.
- December 2004 RotM.
- February 2005 RotM.
